This version fixes the successful download crash as well as implements another user-submitted patch which helps reduce crashing.
NOTE: Because we have moved the site over, the appcast feed is old and from the previous server held at sourceforge.net . For those that have downloaded this and been asked to update to 0.95.2 even-though this is the most recent version, please disregard it. If you would like, re-download version 0.95.3. We have changed the info.plist file to properly display version 0.95.3 when looking at the “About SolarSeek” window as well as changed the appcast feed location to fix this for future releases.
Comments for this article:
If I start the 0.95.2 it doesn’t say there is a new version, not even when I explicitly ask it to check for updates.
Once manually downloaded and updated the 0.95.3 is still called 0.95.2 in the about box.

it’s completely broken for me…
it won’t successfully connect to the server, and i can’t even type anything in the search box! it’s unselectable by clicking or by tabbing.
maybe i need to throw out my old prefs?

Less buggy… at least for me. It still logs me out unexpectedly. A good step.

Works much better for me (macbook, 10.4.8)!
No crashing yet :)
Thank you all contributors!

Works! Crashes every first time i open it, but since that moment i can’t use it for.. ever! So, only the first crash and other stuff (like remove user search results) needs to implemented!

I’ve always crashed a lot since now. But it’s seems crash-free with my mac pro. Nice.
I hope 1.0 is on his way.

Why don’t you make a gz or bz2 of your download files?
It is awful that I must download seven times more without any apparent reason!
Posted by Damian – Oct 27, 05:04 – Permalink
Why are you downloading this 7 times and the reason why we use .tar is for the sparkle update mechanism.

tired of this!

I have used it for about 19 hours now. So far so good. I’ve never used a Soulseek client before, yet your App. is nice, no problems. How about more contextual menus (right mouse clicking) for various things?

Thank you for developing a nice soulseek client for the mac!... that is to say, the program doesn’t work very well so far (at this moment I perfer ssx), but it looks very promising!! I really hope this grows into a mature application, it’s bound to be one of my favourites! ;-)

1) I have trouble deleting the friends list. I have tried several methods and they have not worked,
2) There is also the crash issue. I have found that if there are more than 10k files of a certain file name, i e The Who and Chicago, It keeps disconnecting every time particular those and other file names, such as those are typed in and entered into the search engine.
3) The connection are a bit slow on downloads and I have a real high speed internet connex. The fastest that I ever got was 65kbps. My average speed is between 10 and 20 kpbs. The upload speeds are fine.

stan25, as you’re downloading from a single source on the soulseek network* your download speeds are limited to the uploader’s [settings], thus solarseek behaves at expected.
*this is by design/intent… see slsknet.org forums

No functionality issues here but a couple of style/usability comments:
1. In the download window, every file is listed and according to file name. In practice this means if I queue up say four songs from one person and four from another, they are invariably mixed together in the list, making it harder to tell what’s downloading and what isn’t.
2. More annoying is the fact that a file that is “stopped” and has not yet begun downloading shows a “full” progress bar, exactly like a file that has finished downloading. Quite misleading…
But hey, who I am to complain? I couldn’t write a program like this at all…

Always used soulseek on xp. 3 years ago i haven’t used it until now. Seems good a bit slow to start downloads. BUT the feature I reall y miss is the download folder.
Posted by jogybear – Jan 6, 11:04 – Permalink
it keeps loggin me out… on my 2 mac (intel based)
macbook pro and imac 24’’. What can i do?

As you might guess, the only feature I miss is “download entire folder”, apart that SolarSeek is a great slsk client.
thanks

if would be great if guys update the way you download files. being able to keep the top level folder the same way that the person you are getting from would be great. having all the files downloaded and mixed up is a bit of a pain. otherwise no problems with my macpro running 10.4.8
thanks

Hi, I tried to use solarseek, but honestly it’s really not convenient! I can’t delete friends lists, and I’m constantly being logged out and it also crashed several times. Moreover I tried to download a movie from a friend, I left it while it was finishing downloading and came back later, and it was like nothing had been downloaded and at the beginning!? Why is that it was almost done??
Impossible either to search for a specific chat room!!

Thank You SolarSeek individuals for creating
an easy to install Slsk Application for the
Mac os. For those of us stuck on Mac this
makes a great addition to it’s function.
Hope everything is well for 1.0 and can’t
wait to see it! Good Luck

I am having alot of problem with crashes. I have found a couple of things.
1) If you don’t have and dls going, then the program runs super slow(beach ball on everything you click followed by a 15-30 sec wait).
2)If you have a dl going, the easiest way to make the thing log you out is to search for something with alot of results. (Actually this is any time.)
3)Log offs are AT RANDOM except for when you search for something with a lot of results.
4)People cannot search my files or upload very well.
For some reason though (probably due to what you did in the last update with the successful dl thing) its the most stable if there is at least one dl going on. I hope there is a update soon, and I see a ton of potential in this program.

I used to have a Windows PC with Slsk and compared to the original sofware, Solar Seek is fine although you really need to fix the occasional unexpected crashes, the random log offs, and the sudden ‘Unknown Searches’ that pop-up out of nothing. You also need to fix the Friend’s list to allow deleting users. Pretty much, that’s all. I hope you release a new version soon.
PD: I’m really looking forward for a Wish List…
Cheers

hello and many thanks to you who care to create this wonder for intel macs
I think solarseek can become even better than soulseek.
+ The gui is very very nice, it is totally implemeted in osx.
– I am having problems with the server connection – the search funktion is a little buged, i seems like only sometimes it will let you wright in the box.mac book pro 10.4.8
note.
if there was the folder download funktion it would help so much with organising music.
best regards

I just installed the program and download speeds are realy realy slow. Any way of sorting this out?
Thanx in advance

Crashes immediately upon initial launch. Stays open after that. The main problem I have is that it keeps disconnecting from the damn Soulseek server every couple of minutes. I can’t get anything done with this app because I get dropped every time.
Posted by potzer – Feb 2, 09:22 – Permalink
I’m also getting disconnected every couple of seconds when I run a search. Wow, this sucks. Is anyone working on these issues?
Posted by potzer – Feb 2, 09:30 – Permalink
I don’t think so. People having problems should try using ssX, also an OS X version of soulseek and, I believe the “approved” one by the original soulseek team (the guy who wrote it actually works for them now). Functionality is much closer to the Windows version, plus it’s more stable.
